666 Awesome!

by Nyanki @10:02 pm EST  /  Category: Manga

If you’ve read through Naruto, or at least the older chapters, you should be aware that Kishimoto Masashi has a twin brother. If you didn’t know already, he’s a mangaka as well.

Kishimoto Seishi is the younger twin and has many similarities with his brother. They both grew up with the same influences, so you see similarities in story and style. Those familiar with Naruto will notice the art similarities right off bat. Seishi was actually accused of being a copy cat sadly in Japan, to the point where Masashi had to say in his own manga for fans to leave his brother alone.

Already finished, this 76 chapter manga ran monthly, making the chapters around 40 pages. The first chapter is just short of 80 pages, which may turn some people away. However, this is a manga you can finish in a week, in just a few days for the dedicated.

I really enjoyed this manga, so the point that I actually worked with Kuro on making an RPG of. Titled 666 Satan: Return of the Beast, it takes place long after the series. After we get the right things together, it will hopefully start. :D I had to lower down some abilities, but the thread seems to hold more information on the series than any Wiki on the web. xD

New Pet Tricks: HTML

by Nyanki @10:19 pm EST  /  Category: Internet

What does this Kougra and HTML learning have in common? You can find both on Neopets’ website!

In this age where we rely on and use computers daily, HTML is a handy thing to know. You can design your own webpages, or at least spruce up that simple MySpace.

Sure, there’s many more complex things out there for webpages, such as PHP and Javascript, but that’s not the place to start.

One thing that helped me greatly with learning HTML was Neopets. Yes, that online game where you take care of pets, that eventually made card games and toys. On their site, there is an option to make a webpage for each one of your pets.

With little kids being the target audience, they would have to make editing the page simple, right? That’s why they made the Neopets HTML Guide.

Those familiar with forums (like TN :D ) may find the coding a bit similar to BBcode, which is what those tend to use. BBcode is basically a simplified version of HTML that lets forums only allow certain coding, as well as being much more simple.

Anyway, take a look in the guide and sign up. Experiment on your Neopet’s page. Go ahead and post a link to the page so I can check it out. :)

More on the Moon

by Nyanki @9:04 pm EST  /  Category: Internet

Here is my continuation of my previous article. If you haven’t read that, go read it!

When I finally got to get my hands on working on my websites, I had already knew what to do. Why? This was because I had already had some experience in using cPanel, as well as with using an FTP client.

Perhaps I’ll make website-making guides in the future. Yeah, I think I will :^^:

Anyway, with the experience there, it was all a matter of uploading stuff. I could figure it out pretty easily.

Although, there were things I did not understand, I figured them out by looking the issue up on Google, or better yet, searching the Lunarpages’ forums. I don’t think I’ve had a case where someone hadn’t already asked the problem I had. Which is totally great because then you already have the answer.

Over the Moon in Quality

by Nyanki @2:57 pm EST  /  Category: Internet

I’m sure you noticed that ad I put over on the navigation. Unless you started reading this first, then, well, now you know. xD What’s up with that? Well, Lunarpages is the webhost I have been using since April of ‘07, so almost 3 years.

Lunarpages.com Web Hosting

This was the other banner I had considered using, but I liked the look of the rectangular one better. It just seemed nicer, even if it doesn’t take up the whole block of red.

Anyway, I would like to share my experiences with Lunarpages. I recommend it to anyone with some web experience and who wants a great host. Although, who would want a bad one anyway?

A Japanese Classic

by Nyanki @12:52 am EST  /  Category: Movies

I’ve been totally busy with my studies. It’s that finals time of year. But it’s almost over.

Anyway, I decided to talk about a movie I had watched a couple weeks back. For extra credit in my Japanese class, we had to watch a Japanese movie. Just about everyone had told our sensei that their choice was Seven Samurai. Originally, I was going to pick that one, but with everyone else deciding to do so as well, I decided to go a different route.

Unsure of what to pick with my choice out the window now, I asked the instructor if he had any recommendations. He told me to look into Yasujiro’s old movies. He listed off some titles to me, but only two were able to stick into my head. Something about the seasons.

I looked into it and found that the two movies I had vaguely remembered were Yasujiro’s Late Spring and Early Summer, both of which were old, old, old movies. I’m talking black and white. No, not the silent piano-music films. But you get the idea.

Outside of the first and last ten minutes of The Wizard of Oz, many people nowadays haven’t seen a black and white film. And I’m pretty sure at the mention of one, their mind categorizes it as “dull” or “boring.”

Not true, my friends.

I found out that the two movies I had remembered were both from the same trilogy, with Late Spring being the first. So, I figured that it would be the right movie for me.

After finally managing to get a hold of the movie, I watched it. It was great.

Quote Comments!

by Nyanki @8:57 pm EST  /  Category: News

Originally, I was going to add the option to thread/nest comments. But, I came across quoting, which seemed a lot better. Kuro backed up this choice as well.

Plus, it keeps the comments more forum-like, keeping the tie to TN. xD

Anyway, enjoy the new option. Although, I’m sure it hasn’t been needed at all just yet. But one day, maybe.

Edit: I spruced up the banner. Check it out. Refresh if it still looks the same.

New OS on the Block

by Nyanki @9:45 pm EST  /  Category: Computers

I’m not sure if anyone has tested Google’s creation, the Chrome browser. It turns out that they’re not only out for the browser war. They’re taking a step into the OS market.

What makes their OS different? It’s just a browser. Yup, just a browser.

Picture this. You turn on your computer. After you log in, you’re automatically in IE, Safari, FireFox, etc., whatever your browser is. And you can use nothing else.

They do have a good idea on how to keep everything working. For instance, Google Docs works just like Microsoft Word online. If you want to write something, it gets saved there. But that’s the thing, everything is online. You write a paper, it’s online. Now, some may see this as cool, since you can access your stuff from anywhere.

But if you ask me, it’s only asking for trouble. That’s just waiting for a hacker.

Not to mention, that if you have no access to the internet, you’re out of luck. This thing can’t run without the internet.

For those who seriously only ever use the internet, this is good for you. But for the rest of us, who use programs and don’t want our stuff stolen, we’re good. We’re good.

Luckily, Chrome OS is being crafted for netbooks, where something like this could actually work.

Here’s some links you can check out for more:

The Third OS

by Nyanki @10:26 pm EST  /  Category: Computers

We are all familiar with the battle between Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s Mac for the right to be your operating system. But are they the only ones that exist? The answer is no. There’s another big name out there. What is it’s name?

Linux.

Right now, I’m typing on a Linux OS. Ubuntu to be exact. There are many different brands, or “distros” as they are called. Although there are a couple paid ones, a majority of them are free. Yes, free. Download, install, and you’re good. And everything there is to install on Linux, be it a media player or video editor, they’re all for free.

However, Linux is in the same boat as Mac with software compatibility. Everything is being made for Windows, so it’s lucky to have a Linux version. Extremely lucky. However, there are ways to run Windows programs. There’s the free emulator, wine. And then there’s running a virtual machine through VMware, but this means that you need a copy of Windows, which blows the freeness out.

Mushi-Shi for the Win

by Nyanki @12:07 am EST  /  Category: Anime

If the opening of my last post was confusing, this one will make it make sense. I only wrote about this one second because Jyu-Oh-Sei was fresh in my mind.

I had stumbled across the name “Mushi-Shi” before when making a Naruto RPG character. The character had a beetle-looking set of puppet armor, if that makes sense, and I wanted to give it a name. Mushi-Shi basically means “bug master,” but the mushi in the series are very different from your ordinary bug.

So, I’m on Veoh, and they have these new little flip ads. Mushi-Shi popped up, and I recognized the name from the name grab from before. It seemed FUNimation had its own Veoh account, which as I said, seemed like a good thing to check out since my previous attempts at using their anime players was terrible. Seriously, I had to wait a half hour or more for the vid to load.

I was tired, and I don’t watch dubs very often, but due to my tiredness and FUNimation having a good record with dubs, I thought I’d give it a shot. I can tell you that I’m glad I did. Very glad.

However, a friendly note: Although FUNimation has fixed whatever was up with their videos on their own site before, the quality is lacking compared to what Veoh gives. So if Veoh has it, use them instead!

Now, on with the review!

Juuousei, I say!

by Nyanki @3:28 pm EST  /  Category: Anime

I’ve been feeling light headed over the past couple days, so I’ve been trying to relax. A few weeks ago, I stumbled over an anime I had heard about on Veoh, which led me to FUNimation’s channel. I had heard of FUNimation putting up their series, but I had tried it before on their own website with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, where the loading time was insane. Finding their channel on Veoh was nice, and to see that they actually put dubs up? I thought that was weird.

Anyway, I’ll get into that later. I decided to look for a dub on the FUNimation website to watch to give me something to do. As much as I prefer subs, it’s nice to find an anime that you can hear in plain English so you don’t have to focus as much. When you’re sick, you just want to relax. Finding a good dub isn’t always easy, but FUNimation usually does a good job of it. Much better than Viz >.>

Image from FUNimation websiteSo, I’m looking through their titles, and one catches my eye. Jyu-Oh-Sei. First, it was the cool box picture, second because of the title spelling. -_- However, I remind myself that they don’t want people mispronouncing it. It keeps new watchers from shying away. From my characters in the Bleach RPG on TN, I know that people not knowledgeable in Japanese sounds dislike the “complex spelling,” and it confuses the heck of them on how to say it. And I can see “Juuousei” falling into that confused category.

The point I’m trying to get to is that I watched this anime, and I thought I could give my thoughts on it. Maybe I could do this with all the anime I watch, or games I play. Hey, it’d give me something to do. xD
