New OS on the Block

by Nyanki @9:45 pm EST  /  Category: Computers

I’m not sure if anyone has tested Google’s creation, the Chrome browser. It turns out that they’re not only out for the browser war. They’re taking a step into the OS market.

What makes their OS different? It’s just a browser. Yup, just a browser.

Picture this. You turn on your computer. After you log in, you’re automatically in IE, Safari, FireFox, etc., whatever your browser is. And you can use nothing else.

They do have a good idea on how to keep everything working. For instance, Google Docs works just like Microsoft Word online. If you want to write something, it gets saved there. But that’s the thing, everything is online. You write a paper, it’s online. Now, some may see this as cool, since you can access your stuff from anywhere.

But if you ask me, it’s only asking for trouble. That’s just waiting for a hacker.

Not to mention, that if you have no access to the internet, you’re out of luck. This thing can’t run without the internet.

For those who seriously only ever use the internet, this is good for you. But for the rest of us, who use programs and don’t want our stuff stolen, we’re good. We’re good.

Luckily, Chrome OS is being crafted for netbooks, where something like this could actually work.

The Third OS

by Nyanki @10:26 pm EST  /  Category: Computers

We are all familiar with the battle between Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s Mac for the right to be your operating system. But are they the only ones that exist? The answer is no. There’s another big name out there. What is it’s name?

Linux.

Right now, I’m typing on a Linux OS. Ubuntu to be exact. There are many different brands, or “distros” as they are called. Although there are a couple paid ones, a majority of them are free. Yes, free. Download, install, and you’re good. And everything there is to install on Linux, be it a media player or video editor, they’re all for free.

However, Linux is in the same boat as Mac with software compatibility. Everything is being made for Windows, so it’s lucky to have a Linux version. Extremely lucky. However, there are ways to run Windows programs. There’s the free emulator, wine. And then there’s running a virtual machine through VMware, but this means that you need a copy of Windows, which blows the freeness out.

Mushi-Shi for the Win

by Nyanki @12:07 am EST  /  Category: Anime

If the opening of my last post was confusing, this one will make it make sense. I only wrote about this one second because Jyu-Oh-Sei was fresh in my mind.

I had stumbled across the name “Mushi-Shi” before when making a Naruto RPG character. The character had a beetle-looking set of puppet armor, if that makes sense, and I wanted to give it a name. Mushi-Shi basically means “bug master,” but the mushi in the series are very different from your ordinary bug.

So, I’m on Veoh, and they have these new little flip ads. Mushi-Shi popped up, and I recognized the name from the name grab from before. It seemed FUNimation had its own Veoh account, which as I said, seemed like a good thing to check out since my previous attempts at using their anime players was terrible. Seriously, I had to wait a half hour or more for the vid to load.

I was tired, and I don’t watch dubs very often, but due to my tiredness and FUNimation having a good record with dubs, I thought I’d give it a shot. I can tell you that I’m glad I did. Very glad.

However, a friendly note: Although FUNimation has fixed whatever was up with their videos on their own site before, the quality is lacking compared to what Veoh gives. So if Veoh has it, use them instead!

Now, on with the review!

Juuousei, I say!

by Nyanki @3:28 pm EST  /  Category: Anime

I’ve been feeling light headed over the past couple days, so I’ve been trying to relax. A few weeks ago, I stumbled over an anime I had heard about on Veoh, which led me to FUNimation’s channel. I had heard of FUNimation putting up their series, but I had tried it before on their own website with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, where the loading time was insane. Finding their channel on Veoh was nice, and to see that they actually put dubs up? I thought that was weird.

Anyway, I’ll get into that later. I decided to look for a dub on the FUNimation website to watch to give me something to do. As much as I prefer subs, it’s nice to find an anime that you can hear in plain English so you don’t have to focus as much. When you’re sick, you just want to relax. Finding a good dub isn’t always easy, but FUNimation usually does a good job of it. Much better than Viz >.>

Image from FUNimation websiteSo, I’m looking through their titles, and one catches my eye. Jyu-Oh-Sei. First, it was the cool box picture, second because of the title spelling. -_- However, I remind myself that they don’t want people mispronouncing it. It keeps new watchers from shying away. From my characters in the Bleach RPG on TN, I know that people not knowledgeable in Japanese sounds dislike the “complex spelling,” and it confuses the heck of them on how to say it. And I can see “Juuousei” falling into that confused category.

The point I’m trying to get to is that I watched this anime, and I thought I could give my thoughts on it. Maybe I could do this with all the anime I watch, or games I play. Hey, it’d give me something to do. xD

New Site!

by Nyanki @4:40 pm EST  /  Category: News

I’ve had this server space paid for for a while now, but the project it was meant for never really started. So, I decided to try to make use of my money and make a domain I can play around with.

I guess I’ll use this place to store files and whatnot. Or upload stuff that wouldn’t go anywhere on TN.

If you don’t know what TN is, it’s Talk Naruto, a website I belong to. I have a blog there, so I think I’ll continue to use that. However, I’ll have this site link to them. So this site will be totally connected to my world on TN. xD Hey, free advertisement.

This skin is just a quick grab at a nice free template. I’ll probably upgrade it later. I think the text is off center on the banner, but with the way it’s spelled in Japanese, it makes it hard to judge. I mean, “Cyber” is shorter than “Shinobi” in English, but in Japanese, it’s the opposite. Sure, by one character, but still. My Japanese-reading eyes were having a hard time. lol Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to update the banner soon.
